Wuthering Heights

Back then when i used to celebrate Christmas merrily, i received a classic novel title Wuthering Heights from a friend as we exchange gifts. I was never a reader and I have trouble focusing on the book for more than 30 seconds. I prefer reading comic books instead, everything was beautifully illustrated for your eyes to enjoy.

For more than 10 years the book is well kept and undisturbed in the shelf. As much as for my curiosity I could not even care to want to know what the book is trying to tell. I did try to give it a chance once but I was defeated when I reached the 2nd page.

And now after so many years, on a fine day I stumbled upon the Wuthering Heights the movie. Ahh, finally, I said. Even better than comics. I was damn excited. It was like finally meeting your long lost brother or sister. But then they were not like what you have imagined them to be. The feeling was indescribable. It was not dissapointment because I never hoped. It was not betrayed either because I never trusted.

It was never a love story kind of movie. It was much like a tragic story. The 2 hours I spent watching the movie was full of tension and hate. The two childhood lover was ignorant, childish and stupid. Heathcliff the hero was a revengeful psycho while Catherine the heroin was a naive spoiled brat. Eventually Catherine married to someone else and Heathcliff who has gone away finally reappear as a new wealthy man in town. Of course Heathcliff still love Catherine and tried to make her jealous by marrying her sister in law (who later cried to Heathcliff "After all, it is better to be hated by you then to be loved by you", that bad huh?). Then Catherine constantly looking for Heathcliff despite the fact that she is now has a husband. Catherine got pregnant (with her legally wedded husband, of course) and died. Heathcliff spends his life living in grief and hatred. Many lives around them destroyed including their own because of their actions.

I thought love suppose to be kind, patient, not envy and not boast? It is fair to say that both of them were lacking of experience in relationship (I should know!). If they were to live nowaday, they should know that there is a term called MOVE ON.
